THERMOGYM STAINLESS STEEL HEAT EXCHANGERS FOR GAS COMPRESSION SYSTEMS

Precision Engineered for Maximum Reliability

CONTENTS

1. Industry Requirements & Solutions

Modern gas compression systems operate under extreme pressure and environmental conditions that demand superior mechanical integrity and flawless material behavior. At Thermogym, we respond to this challenge with two distinct stainless steel product families. The UHP series is designed specifically for ultra-high-pressure environments, with tested performance up to 500 bar. Meanwhile, our HP series offers robust, cost-effective reliability for systems operating at standard pressures, including 220 bar. Both are engineered from precision-processed 316L stainless steel, and each product line is specifically tailored for demanding hydrogen, LNG, and high-purity gas installations.

2. Material Specifications

All Thermogym gas compression exchangers are constructed using 316L stainless steel selected for its outstanding corrosion and fatigue resistance. For the UHP series, we maintain sulfur content below 0.002% to prevent hydrogen-induced embrittlement—a common failure mode in high-pressure hydrogen environments. These units use 3/8" outer diameter tubing with 2.3mm wall thickness for superior pressure containment. The HP series, optimized for lighter-duty service, utilizes 0.7mm wall tubing to balance performance and economy. All materials undergo strict traceability and composition control as part of our standard process.

3. Pressure Performance

Each UHP unit is individually burst-tested to 800 bar, providing a robust safety margin over the rated 500 bar maximum working pressure. Every exchanger is marked with a unique serial number for full lifecycle traceability. The HP series undergoes standardized hydrostatic burst testing and is certified to a 350 bar failure threshold. Testing procedures include helium leak detection, pressure hold validation, and inspection by independent third-party examiners to confirm conformance to performance claims and regulatory requirements.

4. Application Performance

Thermogym heat exchangers are deployed in diverse gas handling systems, including hydrogen fueling stations, LNG regasification skids, and helium recovery loops. In hydrogen service, our exchangers show permeation rates of less than 0.01 mL/mm²/day even at full 500 bar pressure. For LNG and cryogenic duties, the units reliably operate from -196°C up to 150°C. Helium applications demand ultra-low permeation and vacuum integrity, which we deliver with sealing protocols proven to 0.1 mbar. The HP series serves general industrial gases including nitrogen, oxygen, and various inert blends, offering 220 bar compatibility and stable operation across ambient and elevated temperature conditions.

5. Mechanical Properties

For ultra-high-pressure use, the UHP product line demonstrates yield strengths in the 1100 to 1200 MPa range, even at cryogenic temperatures. These values are achieved without sacrificing elongation, which remains above 35%, ensuring ductility under extreme loading. HP series units, designed for more standard conditions, offer yield strength in the 950 to 1050 MPa range. All designs are subjected to vibration testing and fatigue simulation to confirm resistance to cyclic loading, thermal expansion stress, and system vibration. Standard manufacturing tolerances are held within ±2 mm across all critical dimensions, allowing easy integration into tight-system footprints.

6. Quality Assurance

Thermogym maintains rigorous quality assurance protocols that exceed industry norms. Every unit is serialized and undergoes a combination of destructive and non-destructive testing before shipment. Our UHP line is subject to full burst testing, and both product lines are leak-tested and vacuum-verified under real-use conditions. Certification includes documentation for PED (Pressure Equipment Directive), CE marking (if required), and inspector reports from independent third-party auditors. Quality documentation and dimensional test records are retained and can be supplied upon customer request.

7. Operational Benefits

Customers who choose Thermogym stainless steel exchangers benefit from significantly extended service life, lower risk of system downtime, and stable long-term thermal performance. Unlike copper or aluminum systems, which degrade under high-cycle fatigue and chemical exposure, stainless steel offers stable mechanical and chemical behavior over tens of thousands of hours. In hydrogen infrastructure, industrial bottling plants, and research laboratories, our exchangers reduce maintenance needs and improve energy efficiency. Whether you're sourcing 20 units annually or 2000 per year, our production line delivers consistent quality with engineering flexibility. Stainless steel is not a sideline at Thermogym—it is the core of what we do.
